DENVER – The Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center announced today that the late Richard Parsons, who held top posts at Time Warner and Citigroup, will be honored as the 2025 Bresnan Award recipient. The award recognizes the late William J. Bresnan, founder and chairman of Bresnan Communications and longtime chairman of the board of the Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center. The award will be presented at the 28th annual Cable Hall of Fame celebration, April 24, 2025, at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City.

“Dick Parsons was a transformational groundbreaker for our industry,” said Michael Willner, Chairman and CEO of Penthera Partners and Chairman of the Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center’s Board of Directors. “He led with great integrity, was passionate about the cable industry and dedicated to many philanthropic pursuits. It is an honor to recognize him with the 2025 Bresnan Ethics in Business Award.”

Parsons served as the former Chairman of the Board of Citigroup, Inc. from 2009 to 2012 and was Chairman of the Board and CEO of Time Warner, Inc., the world’s largest media and entertainment company, from 2002 to 2008. In its January 2005 edition on America’s Best CEOs, Institutional Investor magazine named Parsons the top CEO in the entertainment industry.

Before joining Time Warner, in 1995, Parsons was Chairman and CEO of Dime Bancorp, Inc., one of the largest thrift institutions in the United States. Previously, he was the managing partner of the New York law firm Patterson, Belknap, Webb and Tyler. Prior to that, he held various positions in state and federal government, as counsel for Nelson Rockefeller and as a senior White House aide under President Gerald Ford. Parsons received his undergraduate education at the University of Hawaii and his legal training at Union University’s Albany Law School.

In 2008, Parsons served as a member of President Barack Obama’s Economic Transition Team and also served as a member of his Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. His other civic and nonprofit commitments included Chairman of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s New NY Education Reform Commission; Chairman Emeritus of the Partnership for New York City; Chairman of the Apollo Theater Foundation and of the Jazz Foundation of America.

Additionally, Parsons also served as a Senior Advisor at Providence Equity Partners, Inc., a leading private equity investment firm specializing in media, communications and information companies, and was interim CEO of the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014.

Parsons was a member of the boards of The Estee Lauder Companies Inc., Lazard Freres and Company, Madison Square Garden, Inc., the Museum of Modern Art, the American Museum of Natural History and the Rockefeller Foundation. In 2013, he was named to The Cable Hall of Fame.

“Dick’s commitment to excellence was unrivaled in our industry,” said Diane Christman, President and CEO, Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center. “He truly embodied the spirit of the Bresnan Ethics in Business Award and was a mentor and friend to so many in our industry. “We are delighted to remember Dick and his legacy with this year’s Bresnan Ethics in Business Award.”

The Bresnan Ethics in Business Award was created to honor outstanding men and women in the cable industry who best exemplify Bill Bresnan’s longstanding commitment to ethics in business, and demonstrating societal, community, and philanthropic engagement.

The 28th annual Cable Hall of Fame will be held at the Ziegfeld Ballroom on April 24, 2025.
